The Celtics have the third pick in the 2016 Draft today. With this pick, many analysts believe the Celtics will trade their pick to acquire NBA talent. However, the Celtics may also draft a young player, and then either develop or trade him. Let's explore their options.
1.Draft Buddy Hield
Buddy Hield is a guard from Oklahoma, and one of the best shooters in this year's draft class. Hield made 85 3-pointers out of 100 in a workout with the Celtics. Hield also averaged 25 points and had a 55% 3-point percentage, showing his amazing shooting ability. Buddy Hield can develop into an elite shooter and scorer for Boston, and would be a smart choice at the Number 3 pick. Also, the Celtics could draft and trade Hield for other talent.
2.Trade for Jimmy Butler
The Celtics can also trade their valuable draft pick to the Bulls. The Bulls, after trading Derrick Rose yesterday, have now started to rebuild, and thus would like some extra draft picks. The Celtics also want a star on their roster, and Jimmy Butler seems to be a great option here.
Butler's defensive skill set, as well as his scoring ability, makes him a good fit for Boston, and would definitely make Boston a better team instantly.
3.Trade for Nerlens Noel
The Celtics can also trade their third pick for Nerlens Noel, one of the 76ers' young big men. Noel is a defensive center who can block shots, but needs to develop his scoring ability. However, since he is young and full of potential, he can develop in Boston and become a prominent big man for the team.

Although this wouldn't have an immediate impact on Boston's wins, it would definitely help in the long run.
4.Trade for Khris Middleton
The Celtics can trade this pick for Khris Middleton, a young shooting guard who can score. Middleton also would not have a major impact on the Celtics, and would not be as effective as Noel or Butler. However, the Bucks may add more value to acquire this pick, which Boston is definitely interested in, because they have plenty of picks.
As you can see, Middleton would not have a large impact. The Celtics would be smarter to negotiate for Butler.
5.Draft and Trade Kris Dunn
Kris Dunn is a 6'3 guard who averaged 16 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds a game at Providence. Dunn is a player who wants to play for Philadelphia, and would probably be a good addition to Philadelphia as well. The Celtics can potentially draft Dunn, and trade him to the 76ers for other talent, such as Noel. Or, the Celtics could trade him to another team who is interested.
The Celtics have many options with their Number 3 overall pick, and it will be intriguing to see what they will do with it.
